Naw-Ruz Field Trip
by Diane Heveran Rothaar - Thursday, 17 April 2008, 07:25 AM

Identifying butterfly for little sister A field trip to the Pacific Science Center Boy watching butterfly feed

was part of our Naw-Ruz celebrations this year. We learned about butterflies flying all around us in the Tropical Butterfly House, about the stars we saw over us in the Planetarium, learned about the importance of conserving water as we saw the beautiful Grand Canyon in a fun and exciting 3D IMAX film, and explored lots of hands-on science exhibits of all kinds. See more pictures in the photo gallery, and feel free to start a new discussion and suggest other field trips for the future!

by Diane Heveran Rothaar - Thursday, 17 April 2008, 07:24 AM

For Snoho's Naw-Ruz service project, the children potted some spring flowers to brighten the days of the families in a shelter, and made flower pops and "birds nest" treats for the children there. They were delivered on Naw-Ruz, and greatly appreciated! Thank you to everybody who took part!

by Diane Heveran Rothaar - Thursday, 17 April 2008, 07:22 AM

Youth helping child make puppetFor an Ayyam-i-Ha service project for a family shelter,  children and families gathered toys and toiletries donated by community friends, gift wrapped cartons to carry and display them in, and made adorable people-shaped cards. Then at the shelter, the Snohomish County South Central friends provided and served pizza dinners, and the children acted out the story of "The Giant Turnip" and made felt puppets. The shelter coordinator wrote that she heard the party was fantastic!

Service project - Skit for the Temple Fundraiser
by Diane Heveran Rothaar - Thursday, 17 April 2008, 07:21 AM

At the Snohomish So Central fundraiser dinner for the Chilean Temple, our children and the children and youth attending participated in a short skit about sacrifice at the time of the laying of the cornerstone of the Wilmette House of Worship. The children dressed in period costumes and acted out the narrator's story.

If you have any of the photos of the event, we'd love to have them to share!

If you are planning an event in the area related to the Houses of Worship or to sacrifice and would like us to be a part of your event, contact me!

Together for Orphans
by Diane Heveran Rothaar - Thursday, 17 April 2008, 07:21 AM

When Snoho Baha'i School learned about our friend Jane Koinange's village in Kenya where there about 69 orphans, many of whom could not attend school because they lacked the required school supplies, our school decided to make a connection. The children collected supplies, wrote letters, and made pictures, so Jane could take them along on a trip home.

Some of our families decided to sponsor an orphan also. You can read our description at http://www.togetherfororphans.org.
